Brassica rapa subsp. Pekinensis
Scientific name: Brassica rapa subsp. Pekinensis
Common name(s): Chinese Cabbage
Name as shown in Phylogenes: Chinese cabbage
Ploidy: Diploid
Description:
Brassica rapa subsp. Pekinensis, commonly known as Chinese cabbage, is a widely cultivated crop grown for its edible leaves. It is a member of the Brassicaceae that includes a number of other important crops such as oilseed rape, mustards, broccoli and is a relative of the model plant Arabidopsis thaliana.
It is useful as a model for domestication, morphological diversity, and, due to an ancient genome triplication event, as a tool to study genome evolution.
